Abstract:

The Purpose of this study was to determine norm frame of VO2 max for female students of Islamic Azad University at Varamin branch. Accordingly, 500 female students with the height mean equal to 160±2.4 cm and weight mean equal to 58±3.7 kg were selected from different field studies. Then, measurement of height and weight were done and physical activity rates (PA-R) were determined. Afterward, measurements of VO2 max and body fat percentage were estimated by related equations for every subject. After this stage, the norm of VO2 max, was framed. On the whole, the analysis of data with taking advantage of software presents that: VO2 max mean of female students of Islamic Azad University at Varamin branch is 35.24 ml.kg-1. min-1. On the whole, this study shows that aerobic fitness of female students of Islamic Azad University at Varamin Branch is at an acceptable level.

Abstract:

Introduction: The maximum aerobic capacity (VO2-max) can be used to assess the cardio-respiratory condition and fit the physiological characteristics of workers to the work. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between the two methods of estimating the maximum aerobic capacity and its affecting factors among students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 104 students (54 males and 50 females) participated voluntarily (age ranged from 18 to 28 years). The subjects were assessed by step test according to Astrand and ACSM protocols. The data collecting tool was a questionnaire including separate sections of demographic (age, sex, etc.), anthropometric (height, weight and BMI) and physiological (VO2-max) characteristics. Results: The results revealed that the maximum aerobic capacity estimated from Astrand and ACSM protocols were 3.21 (0.825) and 3.13 (0.707) l.min-1, respectively. Pearson correlation test showed high correlation between estimated maximum aerobic capacity via two protocols of Astrand and ACSM (r=0.958). Meanwhile, there were significant associations among maximum aerobic capacity with weight, height, BMI and the number of hours of exercise per week. Conclusion: The two methods for estimating the maximum aerobic capacity (Astrand and ACSM) were highly correlated. Variables such as weight, height, BMI, and number of hours of exercise per week can be named as effective factors on VO2-m.

Abstract:

Introduction: Measurement of Maximum aerobic capacity (VO2-max) is important in physiologically fitting the laborers to the job. This study was conducted to estimate the aerobic capacity and physical work capacity (PWC) of workers of galvanize department of Semnan rolling pipe Company and also determine the relative frequency of workers whom their jobs were proportional to their physical work capacity. Methods: 50 male workers of Semnan rolling pipe company were selected randomly to participate in this cross-sectional study. Tuxworth & shahnavaz methods were applied to measure instances VO2-MAX. Independent-Sample t-test and correlation technique were used to analysis the data by SPSS software. Results: Average maximum aerobic capacity of workers was 2.88±0.033 liters per minute and the average of physical work capacity was 4.76±0.54 kilocalories per minute. There was a significant relationship between body mass index and aerobic capacity. The result showed that 36 percent of subjects expend more energy than their physical work capacity to perform their duties during the work time. Conclusion: According to the ILO classification, the average physical work capacity of the workers fall into a category of light energy; accordingly, on average, these workers had physical ability to performe less or lighter duties. More than one-third of these workers need to undergo job modification or to change their present job to a job with less energy consumption.

Abstract:

Background and aims: The maximum aerobic capacity or VO2max is a measure of the maximum volume of oxygen that can be absorbed by respiratory system and delivered to the acting muscles through blood flow. The aims of this study were to determine the correlation between the two methods of treadmill and step tests in estimating the maximum aerobic capacity and it's affecting factors among students of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted among 68 students (47 males and 21 females) who participated voluntarily. First, the participants completed Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and demographic characteristics, and if they met inclusion criteria, step and treadmill tests were performed according to Gerkin and ASCM protocols, respectively. Results: The results showed that the mean and standard deviation of maximum aerobic capacity estimated from ACSM and Gerkin protocols were 2. 86± 0. 66 and 1. 86± 0. 32, respectively. Significant and positive correlation were estimated between two tests for maximum aerobic capacity via two protocols of ASCM and Gerkin (r=0. 74 and p<0. 001). Also, there were significant associations among maximum aerobic capacity with age, sex, weight, height, and BMI in both ACSM and Gerkin protocols. Conclusion: According to the results of almost the same ACSM and Gerkin tests, step test can be used instead of the treadmill test to estimate the maximum aerobic capacity. Additionlly, physiological characteristics of the human such as sex, age, height and weight have main roles in maximum aerobic capacity.
